No one was forced.

That’s what made it worse.

They volunteered.

Signed up for it.

The surgeries.

The destruction.

The loss.

Piece by piece—

they gave themselves up.

For power.

For purpose.

For something they believed in.

And when it was done—

there was almost nothing left.

Humanity—

reduced to fragments.

A brain.

A spine.

Maybe.

Everything else—

gone.

Replaced.

Rebuilt.

Weaponized.

They weren’t soldiers anymore.

They were outcomes.

  3. Really interesting. A number of years ago I was reading “Super Soldiers” by Jai Galliot and Mianna Lotz – as part of a study on the ethics of war and violence. This piece makes me think of questions of cyborg assemblages.
