Personally, I believe creativity is one of humanity’s default attributes. Some people create something resembling perpetuation (I say resembling because technically, you can never truly perpetuate something exactly as is–the universe is always in a different configuration of matter and energy from moment to moment), and some people create in a way that expresses an enthusiastic and infective aspiration/inspiration.

A lot of times, it’s hard to say what differentiates the two. We’ve all been subjected to soulless reboots and, conversely, invigorating ones. I suspect it’s an intangible quality, the energetic fingerprint of the creator, which conveys their sincerity and excitement, or lack thereof.

    You, know it’s interesting, the idea that we can feel the motive, or whatever else that was felt at the time of creating, without ever meeting the creator. In my mind, I always THINK that I can sense the involvement or, dedication, that’s the better word. I could be wrong, in fact, I probably am wrong, but the words feel dead. The relationships shallow.
    Anyway, I have just added a new trilogy to my ever growing pile on my night stand. Thank you!

    Perhaps there’s a spectrum of creativity, from the blatant copy to the truly original. With AI somewhere down at the bottom: a “fusion re-work”. And yes, I suspect you’re right that the excitement of the creator (versus a grubby dash for money) gives the energy for higher levels of creation.

    I really like the idea of an “energetic fingerprint” of the creator. I think there’s something to the distinction between creating because you genuinely feel compelled to make something and creating because you’re simply reproducing a formula that you know works.

    What I find especially interesting is that the creator doesn’t necessarily have to consciously understand where that energy is coming from. Sometimes an idea just arrives, grabs you, and you follow it wherever it goes. The sincerity can come through even if you couldn’t explain beforehand why you wanted to write that particular thing.

    That may be part of why some reboots or reinterpretations feel surprisingly alive while others feel completely hollow. The surface ingredients can be almost identical, but you can still sense whether someone actually had something they wanted to say, or whether they were just assembling the pieces because the pieces were already proven to work.
