Any Door Could Become a Portal

A person stands in a dimly lit hallway, facing three open doors, each leading to different fantastical realms: one with a stormy landscape, another with an epic battle scene, and a third showcasing a majestic castle beneath a dragon.

At first, Jon could almost pretend it was a one-time thing.

A glitch.

Stress.

A trick of the mind.

Something he could explain away if he tried hard enough.

But then it kept happening.

Not once.

Not twice.

Again.

And again.

Any door could do it.

Car door.

Bathroom door.

Apartment door.

Revolving doors were the worst.

One second: normal world.

The next: Dragon World.

Then back again.

A flicker.

A flash.

A glimpse of something impossible.

Always short.

Always vivid.

Like a trailer for a movie Jon never asked to watch.

Except it didnโ€™t feel exciting.

It didnโ€™t feel magical.

It felt wrong.

Because magic is easy to enjoy when it stays on a screen.

Or inside a book.

Itโ€™s different when it starts appearing in the spaces where your normal life is supposed to be.

Jon didnโ€™t know what Dragon World was.

He didnโ€™t know why he kept seeing it.

He only knew one thing:

It was getting harder to pretend he was fine.

Because every door now carried a question.

Not where does this lead?

Butโ€”

What will I see this time?
