For a Second… Reality Broke

It happened so fast Jon almost missed it.

One second—

Everything was normal.

The apartment.
The balcony.
The quiet hum of the city outside.

Then—

Something changed.

Not gradually.

Not subtly.

Instantly.

Jon froze.

His body reacted before his mind could catch up.

Because what he saw—

Didn’t belong.

The open pet-gate wasn’t showing the balcony anymore.

It was showing something else.

A face.

Not close.

Not clear.

But there.

Blindfolded.

The fabric wrapped tight across his eyes—etched with something that pulsed and shifted in colors Jon couldn’t quite name.

Not glowing.

Not exactly.

But alive.

For a second—

Jon didn’t breathe.

Didn’t move.

Didn’t think.

Because his brain was trying to do something impossible:

Make it make sense.

And it couldn’t.

Then—

It was gone.

Just like that.

The balcony was back.

The city lights flickering like nothing had happened.

Like it had always been that way.

Jon didn’t move.

Because some part of him already knew—

That wasn’t nothing.
