The Real Reason You Don’t Change Anything

It’s not fear of failure.

That’s what people say.

But that’s not what stops you.

It’s something quieter.

More subtle.

It’s the realization that if you actually change something…

everything else might have to change too.

And that’s where it gets uncomfortable.

Because it’s not just about one decision.

It’s about unraveling the life you’ve built around it.

The routines.

The expectations.

The version of yourself you’ve been maintaining.

So instead…

you pause.

You wait.

You tell yourself:

“not yet”

But nothing changes.

Because the moment isn’t waiting for the perfect time.

It’s waiting for a decision.

That’s where the story turns.

Not when everything is clear.

But when someone chooses anyway.

  1. Thank you for sharing. You worded everything perfectly.
I agree, we can’t be stuck in our ways forever. It starts with taking the first step even if we don’t know where we’re going.
    We hold so much power.

  2. I really like the line, ‘because the moment wasn’t waiting for the right time’. Great 👍🏽

  3. I don’t think it’s the fear of working that stops people from changing. It’s more like the thought of what if I change and nothing changes.

  4. “Because the moment isn’t waiting for the perfect time. It’s waiting for a decision.” Love that. I’m on the cusp of a life-changing decision and I keep stalling because I’m worried about how it’s going to affect my whole life.

    1. Good luck Dzidza! I’ve ben on those cusps and I know it can be nerve-wracking. I’m rooting for you!

      1. Sooo update… I had to give up on something (my big decision). People hardly talk about how difficult it is to give up on something, even when we know it is not good for us. Starting afresh is nerve-wracking. But I made the best decision for myself that I could at that time. I’m happy about it

      2. Good for you! Oftentimes, the things we give up on or leave behind come into play in the future and create some unexpected benefit. I hope this happens with you! I wish you the best!

  5. And change is the interface between who you think you are and who you will become.

  6. This is good!!! And too true…

  7. Interesting…

  8. In other words…the greatest fear we have..is the fear of success! Great writing..!

  9. Wise words indeed

  10. I think the golden nugget in this is “it’s about unraveling the life you’ve built around it.”

  11. Truer words…change is constant and a given…and you explained it susinctly…that what holds ppl back is the fear of losing everything important or at least one something important because it will inevitably become caught up in “the change” and whatever the thing is, holds meaning or power…and until the unknown becomes more important or vital, change won’t happen 😉 brava

    1. Indeed! It can be pretty awesome and inspiring to see someone make the leap into the unknown!
