If information is like raw food, I believe stylistic trappings–pace, rhythm, and often cultural context–are what allows it to be cooked, seasoned, and enjoyed as entertainment. In writing, stylistic trappings are word choice, tone, perspective, etcetera.
However, I think a compelling style defies an established checklist–Tarantino consistently uses outdated styles, and nobody saw Kpop Demon Hunters coming until the music was everywhere and the movie was blowing view counts out of the water.
Personally, I suspect a compelling style is born from a creator’s love for their project, and the willingness to edit it down to the purest form they hope to express.
