Personally, my ability to create is dependent on my ability to allow–I don’t shape things into being so much as allow things to be shaped. Most of the time, the narrative surprises me with an unexpected twist while I’m writing it.

If I take too much ownership or become too prideful in my creation, I cut myself off from the rhythm and flow. The creation is as much a product of existence and the audience as it is my own imagination. I’m just happy to do my part, and facilitate its becoming.

  1. Did you know the archaic definition of conduit in Latin is “fountain” ⛲️

    1. Curious. This explains the notion of serving as a conduit, a channel, a flow of some essence or energy.

    2. I was coming to the comments to tell him he was the conduit to what he creates!

    3. Very cool!

  2. So true.
Without my characters telling where I am going wrong, the books would be worthless. I am but the translator.

    1. Truth. I am entirely at the whim of my content. Without which I mosey aimlessly into the night.

      1. Always listen to the content. It’ll take you to the most amazing places.

      2. Indeed! That’s where the adventure bleeds into the creation!

      3. Bliss, I tell you. Sheer Bliss 😊

    2. It feels way easier with that perspective!

      1. The main ones are like good friends. I would write more, but they are all busy with things which are important but just don’t make good fantasy stories.

  3. Understood completely. This is the dance of creation.

  4. A writer’s journey feels blessed when he captures the narrative’s proper rhythm and flow. Capturing it will always bring us back to writing again.

  5. My friend shared an idea with me the other week that I can’t stop thinking about!
“You cannot create and analyze at the same time. You must either create or analyze.”
If you try to do both, they get in the way of one another and you end up going in circles and never reaching that flow state.

    1. That has the ring of truth! My brain definitely feels different when I’m writing versus editing
